About Us

Exterior of Red Lion Cafe & Restaurant with a red roof and holiday wreaths.

The Red Lion Café first opened its doors around 1930 in its original three-story building. Ray Morgan Sr. and his wife Minnie initially ran a one-room country store, selling groceries, gasoline, and kerosene.

After the Depression, Ray and Minnie obtained a restaurant liquor license. While the license listed the trade name as Red Lion Café, locals commonly referred to it as Morgan’s Hotel. The couple operated the one-room bar/restaurant for about 20 years.

On June 24, 1959, their son Raymond Jr. (known to most as Rammie) and his wife Lorraine took over the business at the age of 24. They had three children at the time: Craig, age 4, and 3-year-old twin girls, Cheryl and Sharon. In 1964, their fourth child, Douglas, was born. All of Ray and Lorraine’s children worked in the restaurant as they grew up. While the boys pursued other careers, Cheryl and Sharon stayed to help run the family business.

The restaurant has undergone four major renovations. The first was in 1970 when a 24 x 60 dining room was added. Ten years later, a new kitchen, banquet room, and additional dining space were built. In 2012, a take-out area was added, reducing the size of the banquet facility from the second renovation. Finally, the original bar received a facelift in 2014. Today, the Red Lion Tavern hosts Trivia Night, Live Music and Karaoke throughout the year. Recently, the banquet room has been repurposed into a family-friendly game room.

Ray and Lorraine retired in 2008. In 2017, Cheryl and her late husband Terry and her two sons, Zachary and Andrew, took over the operations. Terry's legacy of continuous improvement is honored as the family strives to make necessary enhancements.

We warmly welcome you to our family business.
